Horrible review guide
By Dilip D. Patel
I've taken a total of six ap's in high school and i have 3 left this year. I've always found princeton review to have the most concise, helpful books, but this one is simply horrible. The way its written makes it confusing, random and unorganized. Never buy a review book written by an Indian guy. (I would know I am one) I have to order another review book because this one is not helpful at all.

Is it just me, or this book confuses a random sample with a SRS?
By Jack Sparrow
I spent some 20 mins browsing this book at my local bookstore. I believe the author states that a random sample is the same thing as a simple random sample. This is not really so. In a random sample, every unit has the same probability of being chosen as every other unit. In a simple random sample (SRS), the whole sample (n units) has an equal probability of being chosen as every other sample of n units from the same population. A given sample may be a random sample and not necessarily be a simple random sample.

Some other statistics books are also using random sample as a shortcut expression for simple random sample, but beware that they are actually two different things.

Otherwise, this book seemed comprehensive and well organized to me. It teaches a little more statistics than you need for the AP exam, and it does not provide as much AP-sepcific insider hints as Duane Hinders' book.

From Publishers Weekly
SignatureReviewed byCarl ZimmerIt's coming on 40 years now since James Watson published one of the classic works of popular science, The Double Helix. In that slender volume, Watson told how he and Francis Crick collaborated for two furious years to discover the structure of DNA. It is a great story splendidly told, but what truly set The Double Helix apart from most other books about scientific discoveries was Watson himself, less a narrator than a character: a wildly ambitious young man splitting his time between searching for the secret of life and trying to find a date, ready to spill the beans on friends and enemies alike. The Double Helix focused on only two years of a life that has now spanned nearly eight decades. After his Nobel Prize–winning work on DNA, Watson went on to become a towering figure in the new science of molecular biology, first at Harvard University and then as director of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Watson offers a new look back in Avoid Boring People, which he presents as, of all things, a self-help book. At the end of each chapter, he reviews the lessons he learned during that phase of his life. This is a book for those on their way up, as well as for those on the top who do not want their leadership years to be an assemblage of opportunities gone astray, he writes. There's much that is entertaining and historically revealing, and Watson still knows how to deliver a delicious skewering. He refers to his opponents at Harvard who resisted his push into molecular biology as so many prima donnas whose meager accomplishments scarcely justified even the status of has-been. There's also much cause for head-scratching. In the 21st century, Watson's descriptions of my hopes of finding a suitable blonde are not even funny. He pads the book with too many details, like the $8.86 his lawyer billed him for toll calls. And while some of Watson's advice is wise (never be the brightest person in the room), some is obsolete. A scientific team of more than two is a crowded affair made sense in the 1950s, but today it's impractical for Watson's intellectual grandchildren, who must work together in squadrons on massive projects to analyze entire genomes. And when he offers lessons on how to spend your Nobel Prize money, you realize that Watson is actually offering lessons on being James Watson. And that unique job, we all know, is very much taken. 65 photos. (Sept. 27)Carl Zimmer's books include Evolution: The Triumph of an Idea and Soul Made Flesh. His next book, on E. coli and the meaning of life, will be published by Pantheon next spring.

From Booklist
In this memoir, Watson shows by example how to get to the top and stay there. Spanning his boyhood interest in birds to his resignation from Harvard University in 1976 to his leadership of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Watson's reminiscences encompass his claim to fame—cocredit for deducing DNA's structure in 1953––but focus on his ambition and his conduct of academic politics. He exhibits candor and indulges in gossip, qualities that contributed to the controversy surrounding his account of the DNA breakthrough (The Double Helix,1968) and that enliven this example of the academic memoir, not a genre renowned for excitement. Through arch character sketches, light self-deprecation, and a comic penchant for appraising the behavior and physique of the human female, Watson swings between his scientific aims and the resistance he perceived in Harvard's biology department to molecular genetics. Following each chapter, he appends "manners" derived from his experiences, which in the aggregate amount to making one's mark early and demanding commensurate perks thereafter. In angular and opinionated prose, Watson proves as engaging as ever. Taylor, Gilbert

Very Insightful!
By Loyd Eskildson
James Watson did not win the Nobel prize helping discover the double-helix structure of DNA by being stupid. Thus, it is no surprise that his "Avoid Boring People" is full of insightful and invaluable observations gained during his work. These "Remembered Lessons" are primarily aimed at those in academic/research endeavors; however, a large proportion apply to any area of focus. Examples follow:

College is for learning how to think. Learning "Why?" something occurred is much more important than a few facts (eg. the reasons for the rise and fall of the Roman Empire are more important than the birth date of Julius Caesar). It is better to simply know which books hold details you will need than to overload oneself with facts that never will be repeated. On the other hand, new ideas usually need new facts.

Students should choose courses that naturally interest them, and if one's grades are not largely a, they likely have not yet found their intellectual calling. One should narrow down their career objectives while still in college.

The academic world abounds in triviality. Choose a young thesis adviser - the older ones' expertise is most likely in fields that long ago had seen their better days, leaving devotees with diminished job expectations. Those breaking new ground inevitably threaten minds continuing in old ways. Extend yourself intellectually through courses that initially frighten - eg. math is necessary to pursue the frontiers of genetics. Never accept invitations to senior faculty homes unless you have reason to anticipate a very good meal or a fetching face.

Exercise exorcises intellectual blahs. If you are just a little sloppy you have a good chance of introducing an unsuspected variable and nailing down an important new phenomena; too sloppy, however, and you never get reproducible results.

Choose a research objective apparently ahead of its time - mopping up the details after a major discovery by others will not likely mark you as an important scientist; however, only take on problems where meaningful results can come over a 3-5 year interval. Work with a teammate who is your intellectual equal - this helps shorten flirtations with bad ideas.

Teaching can make your mind move onto big problems - especially when challenged by advanced students.

Exaggerations do not void basic truths; emphasizing exceptions and qualifying terms is not the way to get ideas across initially. Controversial recommendations require political backing.

Never offer tenure to practitioners of dying disciplines - eg. plant biology. The result will be an unwarranted appeal to less qualified students.

Begin and end every chapter of a book with a snappy sentence.

Don't take up golf - becomes too much of an obsession for too many. Similarly, two obsessions is one to many - must focus.

Managers should schedule as few appointments as possible - just say "Yes" immediately to legitimate requests, even if you don't have the money. Walk the grounds - get wind of problems early, see who is truly committed and probably going places (working weekends and nights). Institutions are either moving forward or backward - never stagnant (eg. top staff will leave if not moving forward).

Be a friend to your trustees - joining their clubs, donate to their causes. Attractive buildings project institutional strength.

At the end, Watson makes an important observation in today's too politically-correct world. "A priori, there is no firm reason to anticipate that the intellectual capacities of people geographically separated in their evolution should prove to have evolved identically."

Finally, Watson sympathizes with Larry Summers' recent removal as Harvard president for making an apolitical remark wondering if differences in women's brains accounted for their lower participation in scientific careers. Ironically, a similar recent slip-up by Watson jeopardized his leadership status at Cold Harbor.

Engaging, witty, and anecdotally wise....
By Intelligent Signs in the Universe
I have read this book after being a fan of Francis Crick for years, and sure enough, James Watson is also cast from a similar mold... inquisitive, assuming nothing, fun, witty, and introspective. This would be a great read I would imagine for anyone sunk in the institution of academia, it reveals how those institutions really work. I applaud Watson personally for his very important work, and his relevant views, which are neither incendiary nor aggresive, but simply based on the facts of an observable universe. Which is right where we belong.

A strangely ironic work
By therosen
James Watson, the scientist most famous for discoverign and writing about the Double Helix, writes a broad autobiography, complete with advice to those following in his footsteps. The book is heaviest on the people he met in life, and lighter on science, which makes for entertaining reading by a broader audience. Those looking for details on the science discovered (as opposed to the author's aquaintances) are best advised to look elsewhere.

There are several interesting ironies in the book. At the end of each chapter is a list of "Manners" describing career advice, yet much of Honest Jim's behavior (chasing undergads, writing unflattering portaits of his colleagues in the Double Helix) is extremely unmannered. Additionally, some of the flourish he adds as head of the Cold Springs Harbor Laboratory (expensive renovations on his home) are at odds with the financial mess he was brought in to fix.

The quality of an autobiography, though, shouldn't be judged on a character assessment of the writer. The book gives a non-technical view of the life of one of American's most reknowned scientists, and provides a much broader view than he provided in the Double Helix. The "Manners" do indeed provide advice for junior scientists. Perhaps most important, it isn't boring, and that's a trap hard to avoid in scientific autobiographies.

Is That a Gun in Your Pocket?: The Truth About Female Power in Hollywood, by Rachel Abramowitz

Ten years ago, Rachel Abramowitz began interviewing the most powerful women in the movie-making business in an effort to discover how they had infiltrated this male-dominated world. From superstar actors to independent directors, women in all arenas opened up to her, and the result is extraordinary—together, these stories comprise the most comprehensive history to date of women in Hollywood. Here, in their own candid and provocative words, are Jodie Foster, Penny Marshall, Dawn Steel, Sherry Lansing, Barbra Streisand, Nora Ephron, Meryl Streep, Jane Campion, and many others—in short, one of the most talented casts ever assembled. Poignant, inspiring, scandalous, and hilarious, this is at once a landmark look at the evolution of women’s place in filmmaking and a glimpse inside one of the most powerful industries in American culture.

From Publishers Weekly
Despite her provocative title, Premiere senior writer Abramowitz's look at some of Hollywood's female players (including Paramount chief Sherry Lansing, writer/director Nora Ephron and actor/director Jodie Foster) turns out to be a rather scattershot account that only glances its target. The material is not much more developed than it was in Abramowitz's magazine articles. And as is typical in such an overview, the emphases given to the various women may seem debatable to some readers. For example, Abramowitz only briefly mentions Julia Phillips, the producer of The Sting, perhaps because Phillips already expressed herself so well in her classic slash-and-burn Hollywood memoir, You'll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again. Although Abramowitz's book rarely captures the passion of Phillips's, it does provide some pathos in describing the rise and demise of Dawn Steel, the tough-talking studio executive who succumbed to a brain tumor. In what is perhaps a sign of the times, the profiled women seem reluctant to complain too loudly about any gender discrimination they have faced or to advocate too strongly any particular ties of sisterhood. Perhaps it's because, as Ephron notes, "If you're not helped by men, you don't get anywhere in this business, because they run it, women don't." Still, Abramowitz's analyses of these women's business experiences will appeal to media junkies as well as those looking to carve out their own careers in Hollywood. (May)

From Library Journal
This is a superbly written and insightful look at the lives of some of Hollywood's most powerful women--directors, writers, agents, actors, and other major players. Sherry Lansing, Sue Mengers, Polly Platt, Penny Marshall, Dawn Steel, Nora Ephron, and others all made their careers with talent, creativity, perseverance, and hard work in an industry known to be difficult at best and rife with obstacles at worst--particularly for women and particularly when these women built their careers. Their stories are more than just a chronicle of strong women who triumphed against the prevailing odds and shattered sexist practices within the industry; they are intensely absorbing narratives, rich in details of childhood memories, heartbreaks, inspirations, past experiences, and family and friends (men included) that all shape their lives, both personal and professional. Each woman is real--not just a famous name--and Abramowitz, a senior writer at Premiere, weaves their separate stories together with consummate skill and emotional resonance. This important work will provide a substantial and lasting addition to the serious literature on both Hollywood culture and women's studies.

From Booklist
Abramowitz, a contributor to Premier magazine, offers both an engrossing history of Hollywood women on top--and the price they pay for getting there. A combination oral history, cogent biography, and delicious gossipfest, the book looks at the lives of a number of the most powerful women in the movies, including Paramount head Sherry Lansing, agent Sue Mengers, filmmaker Polly Platt, and renaissance women Barbra Streisand and Jodie Foster, among others. The account begins with the funeral of Dawn Steel, the former studio chief who died of a brain tumor in 1997. Some said, maliciously, that the tumor was divine retribution for Steel's ubiquitous use of her cell phone, but the real point of the scene is to show how convoluted this powerful woman's relationships were with others at her level in Hollywood, the men and especially the women. Steel and the others have very mixed feelings about the film industry, the men who run it, and the few women who have wedged their feet in the door. They also share their conflicted thoughts on what a life in Hollywood does to a real life. Because so much of Abramowitz's material comes from interviews, readers get a real sense of who these women are: their childhoods (a notable number lost their fathers early in life); their struggle to break away from the "good girl" mode; their complicated relationships with the men/mentors in their professional lives; and the details of particular projects that could make or break them. This is a fascinating, insider's look at the business of moviemaking, and it is certain to prompt strong reactions from readers of all kinds. Ilene Cooper

Hollywood Behind the Scenes
By D. Clancy
Rachel Abramowitz has achieved what so many would like to accomplish. She has written an intelligent, compelling and very entertaining account of how women achieve power in Hollywood. The book opens with Dawn Steel's death in 1997 and for the next 500 pages it is almost impossible to put down.
Abramowitz has done her research well. This was a book that took her seven to write and I can believe it. We learn how a studio runs and we glimpse the personal lives of the most powerful women in town.
On the production side Dawn Steel, Sherry Lansing, Polly Platt are profiled and we learn a great deal about each one of these major studio players. Female directors and actresses such as Penny Marshall, Nora Ephron, Barbra Streisand, Jodie Foster have their careers and lives etched with great detail.
The women that Abramowitz talks about happen to be high profile Hollywood producers, agents and actors. However, they could just as well be in any boardroom in any city in the US. It is also a story about the adversity that women face in big business.
A difficult book to put down.

The Book Cover Only the Basics
By Anthony
I took the test recently and I only chose this book to study from. The only reason I chose this book because based on the ratings given by the raters at Amazon.com. I came to be disappointed by the results, because most of the responses were not fairly accurate from what I see.
The book first of all does touch most of the basics and topics of the ideas but it does not help you eliminate most of the answers. I was able to complete half the test fairly okay but the other half I could not comprehend because the topics were explained very briefly. The vocabulary covered such as speciation was covered in the book, but it still lacked vocabulary that I did not know.
Another dissappointing thing about the topic was that it did not cover the anatomy of the ear which was covered on the test. Also, the pictures in the book were confusing. The pictures were totally different from the real SAT II that could throw people off. Finally, the test questions were not fairly accurate because it was too simple in comparison to the real test. The book is only great study tool if you combine with another book to study from.

Great, but lacking
By Lana Shusterman
Well I've taken the test and I did fairly well, a 740, decent, but not great. However I managed to go through about 3/4 of this book and finished the rest later just for the heck of it. So here's essentially the basis of this book. First the sections give you generally accurate information and provide you with practice sets and questions after each section. However, though most sections cover 80-100 percent of the needed SAT II information there are some key lacking points. Firs the ear and eyes are not covered. And let me tell you this: THERE IS ALMOST ALWAYS A QUESTION ON THEM! Yes two tests in a row there have been questions on the eyes and ears, hm... Also genetics is a bit brief, while evolution is simply great. Also let me note that the SAT II had fewer molecular questions in general in the regular exam part, then analysis and organism biology. So using this with the Kaplan book, and studying will likely get you at least a 750-800 depending on study time.

I liked it, despite its simplicity
By A Customer
Most people, in their reviews, have found excuses to call this book bad simply because it is easy to read. Well, let me tell you right now that just because the book is easy to read does not mean that it is a bad book. I've looked at other books, but this book appealed to me most because of the fact that it isn't boring like most text books. I'll go as far as to say that reading this book was an enjoyable experience for me (something I can't say for most books). This book recognizes the fact that the SAT2 Biology is a concept based test, and it uses this to the advantage of the reader. The book presents the concepts in a "big picture" form and gets into some detail, but not much. This way, the reader is able to get a grasp of the material without getting overwhelmed. I used this book EXCLUSIVELY for just 2 days and I got a 740 on the SAT2 Biology M. If I would have spent more time reading it, I'm sure I could have done better. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good SAT2 Biology preparation book with minimal time commitment and minimal headache from boredom.

Review
I’m always looking for new tastes and cuisines in different regions of the country, especially those that involve local culture. We went in search of big Tex-Mex cooking, which San Antonio is known for. I chose Los Barrios from the many Tex-Mex restaurants in the city because I fell in love with Diana Barrios Treviño and the entire Barrios family. . . . The dishes they have created contain amazing combinations and flavors that many people don’t get to experience. I wanted the rest of the country to sample what I was tasting. I wanted people to realize that true Tex-Mex cooking isn’t just fajitas and burritos. Now, with the Los Barrios Family Cookbook, I am excited to know that people across the country can easily prepare and taste all of the delicious dishes I experienced on my visit. Whether you like your food hot, medium, or mild—and these recipes have it all—you’ll love the food in this book.

Thanks a lot, Emeril
By A Customer
Emeril Lagasse wrote the Foreword, and was a factor in my decision to buy it. I may not have given this cookbook a full chance yet, but I am greatly unimpressed so far. I was put off at first just browsing through it by heavy reliance on ingredients like lots of grated American cheese and Velveeta, as another reviewer mentioned. I tried two recipes so far. The Chile con Carne was mediocre; you can do better with an envelope of French's Chili-o. The "Best Tex-Mex Enchiladas" were awful. I made a full batch and froze a bunch as suggested, and ended up throwing them away.

Pretty graphics- vapid instructions
By A Customer
If you think that Velveeta cheese is an appropriate ingredient for MANY Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes, then this is your books. If Chilaquiles made with "crushed tortilla chips" and Velveeta are a good idea, look no further! I've never been to this restaurant but I've never been less inspired than I was from reading this book. If you like quick, easy and apparently bland food, this might make it but if you love Mexican food you will be bored and occasionally horrified! Great graphics. It's too bad because I was really looking forward to this one.

Excellent if its what you're looking for...
By Paul Webber
I was looking for a cookbook that dealt in the basics (I had never prepared a poblano pepper for roasting before), but that also had some interesting dishes. I have never been to the restaurant so I didn't have anything to compare my results to ( not that I should anyway) and I wanted something that had a good feel to it.

Overall, I am impressed with the book for someone like myself, new to cooking actual meals, and have already created homemade corn tortillas, pico de gallo, eggs mexicana and the chicken breasts in creamy poblano sauce. My family seems pleased with the results (my tortillas were a bit thick), and I'm going to continue to use the book until I outgrow it (it may be a while).

If you are a more experienced cook, especially in Mexican or Tex-Mex dishes, then this may be a little simple for you, but if you are fairly new to the cuisine then please consider it.

Have you made nachos as a family meal but not your own pico de gallo? Then this is your book.

Carry Me Across the Water: A Novel, by Ethan Canin

Breathtaking in its suspense and beauty, Carry Me Across the Water is the story of a man’s turbulent journey, with his family, through the central years of the twentieth century. Young August Kleinman escapes from Nazi Germany to America, where his mother’s words—“Take the advice of no one”—fate him to a life of boldness and originality, from the poor streets of New York to the marble mansions of industrial Pittsburgh, from old world Hamburg to the jungle islands of the Pacific. Ultimately, near the end of a long and bountiful life, his resolution of a haunting encounter with a Japanese soldier during World War Two finally illuminates, at the deepest levels, the way authentic lives truly unfold. From the writer hailed as “the most mature and accomplished novelist of his generation” (Alan Cheuse, National Public Radio) comes this “exquisitely modulated short novel” (Los Angeles Times), which “eases its silky-smooth way into a reader’s consciousness even as it plumbs the depths” (Newsday).

Amazon.com Review
A truly gifted short-story writer, Ethan Canin faltered when it came to his second novel, the turgid For Kings and Planets. This time around, though, the author has found an ingenious solution to his problems with the longer form. Carry Me Across the Water is essentially a book of short stories posing as a novel, and here's the surprise--it's pretty effective. The protagonist, August Kleinman, is a wealthy old man looking back on the span of his life. He recalls his early youth in Vienna as the son of a cultured Jewish family; his flight to America in the 1930s with his mother; his war years in the Pacific; his career as the beer king of Pittsburgh; his love for his wife and alienation from his children. This may sound relatively straightforward. Yet Canin shatters this portrait into a series of compelling vignettes, each rearing up unexpectedly and without the crude restraints of chronology.

This format of random flashbacks allows the author to handle a sprawling novel--and a complex life. At the same time, these compartmentalized moments are kept from seeming too small by means of an expansive prose style, which sometimes suggest Mark Helprin in high gear: "Downriver he could see the fierce furnaces throwing blue-black smoke into the air, the crude ore of the land being transformed by human ingenuity into girders and beams that were then floated downstream to ports and train yards and trucking depots, a vast delta of commerce that fanned out from there to all the great hubs of the earth." Throughout, Canin tempers his grandiloquence with a short-story writer's sensitivity to the details of character, and accomplishes exactly what he intended: an involving montage of 20th-century life. --Claire Dederer

From Publishers Weekly
August Kleinman, the protagonist of Canin's (For Kings and Planets) latest novel, is 78 years old, rich and wise from a life filled with accomplishments and heartache. Yet as this spare, beautifully realized story opens, he is marveling at the fierce force he discovered in himself one afternoon when he was 18. That day, on his way to watch a friend from his Orthodox Jewish neighborhood in Queens practice football at Fordham University, Kleinman slipped into the locker room and impulsively donned a uniform. He can still feel the way he soared through the air and the jolt of the tackle he landed before he was caught. Looking back, Kleinman can clearly see that it has been the sudden flare of this instinctive intelligence and fight, this drive to persist and assert his existence, that has shaped his life, bringing both abundance and loss. Canin deftly laces together the defining stories of Kleinman's life from fleeing Nazi Germany as a child with his mother to fighting the Japanese in World War II, building his fortune, enduring the death of his beloved wife and then his difficult relationship with one grown son. Each story contributes another instance of the fighting spirit and impulse to soar that so characterizes Kleinman. However, what is finally galvanizing and moving about Kleinman's life is not his individuality but his complexity. He is capable of being touched, and he yearns to protect and nurture what he finds good. This work has a resonance and precision that can come only when native storytelling ability and craftsmanship search out the deepest truths. Canin deserves a wide readership because he shows that truth even the truth that comes with age and experience is not boring.

From Library Journal
Living alone in a Boston apartment after his wife's death, 78-year-old millionaire beer magnate August Kleinman reviews the defining moments of his life: escape from Nazi Germany as a child, marriage to an Italian Catholic, and the reckless decision to start his own business. But mostly his thoughts turn to World War II and a tragic encounter he had with a young Japanese soldier. For the past 50 years, Kleinman has kept the soldier's letters and drawings and decides to return the keepsakes to the surviving family members in Japan personally. More of a character study than a history lesson, Canin's latest novel (after For Kings and Planets) mentions major postwar events only in passing, instead focusing on family relationships and the simple satisfactions of domesticity. In deference to the values of the World War II generation, the prose style is self-consciously old-fashioned, without a trace of irony or narrative duplicity. This is a well-crafted and frequently affecting novel that only misses the mark in its familiarity. We have heard this story countless times before. Still, Canin's many fans will not be disappointed. Recommended for most fiction collections.

Promising book from a promising writer
By Keith Walsh
Emperor of the Air is one of the best short stories I've read. I've read it over and over, and years ago I looked everywhere to find the new Ethan Canin story. But by the time I got to Blue River, I started to feel like Canin was interested more in the form of storytelling than in the story...it was a good book, but definitely not the rich novel I was waiting for. After reading Carry Me, I'm feeling like I've been watching a writer who's publishing his writing exercises more than one who is obsessed with writing a great novel.
The main character of this story, August Kleinman, is very complex, with a past that includes horror, joy, wealth, and sorrow. What we witness in the book are mostly memories: of WWII, his childhood in NYC, his adulthood in Pittsburgh, and his retirement to Boston. Generally, this past is far more interesting than the present tense of the story until the end, when he travels to Japan to confront his wartime self and the family of the man he killed in battle (well, kind of a battle). I don't think the drama of this moment pops, however, because the cold detachment of the story keeps the character and the reader at a distance, and because the choices the author makes about who Kleinman meets in Japan just seems all wrong.
I think, in many ways, this book relies on good short story moments--the old rich man bagging groceries in order to stay useful, the old man mistaking his grandson for his son, the old man facing his past in Japan--rather than novel-length drama. In the end, I felt that sense of "Wow" that I feel after a good short story but not that deep satisfaction I feel after a novel, that feeling that I've made new friends and really know more about a place, a time, and a world than I did before.

Powerful Story of WW II Veteran Still Coming To Terms
By R. Platten
This is a powerful story about a war veteran who is nearing the end of his life and is trying to tie off loose ends, one of which is the letter he took from an enemy soldier. He has a complex relationship with his son, and exploring this helps the reader see how this elderly soul is battling his own desire to bury emotions with his desire to reach closure on some unresolved issues. The author is a fairly young man who writes eloquently about older people in most of his works. This is a great story on all levels: adventure, biography, and human affairs.
